Contest Rules

The following regulations are fully applicable for 2025 and replace all previously published contest regulations, regardless of their form or medium, concerning the BMA contest.UBA section ARA invites all radio amateurs to participate in this contest, which qualifies for the HF Super Prestige if at least 25 valid logs from Belgian participants are included in the results in the HF category.
1 – Name and Purpose
BMA (Belgian Mill Award) Contest
To promote the Belgian heritage of windmills, watermills, and horse mills.
2 – Date and Duration

4 – Points
a) A QSO with a Belgian station: 3 points
b) A QSO with a foreign station: 1 point
c) A QSO with a station at a Belgian mill reference: 100 points
5 – Categories
HF Band (80m SSB):
A) Operating from a valid mill reference
B) ON3 operating from a valid mill reference
C) Operating without a mill reference
D) ON3 without mill reference
E) Foreign participants
VHF Band (2m SSB and FM):
A) Operating from a valid mill reference
B) Operating without a mill reference
C) Foreign participants
Only point-to-point radio contacts via the ether are allowed.
6 – Operating from a Mill Reference (HF and/or VHF)
a) Participating stations (/P or /M) must be located on or near a mill (with a reference number) within a maximum radius of 250 meters.
b) The same radio amateur (/P or /M) may activate only one mill reference during the contest.
c) The same conditions from items 6a and 6b apply to radio amateurs (/P or /M) who do not submit a log.To qualify as a valid mill reference, at least 25 QSOs must be made, and registration must occur at least 48 hours before the start of the contest via the online registration form. Valid mill references can be found on the website.
7 – Participation and Power
All radio amateurs, domestic and foreign, with the appropriate license for the above categories may participate. Transmit power is according to the participant’s license. For foreign participants , only QSOs with Belgian stations are valid.
8 – Report
RST + QSO serial number starting with 001 + province + optional mill reference.
Only Belgian mill references are valid. Province and mill reference are integral parts of the report and must be included in the log.

9 – Multipliers
All Belgian provinces ( 1x )
All Belgian mill references ( 1x )
Total multipliers = number of different Belgian provinces + number of different Belgian mill references
10 – Final Score
(Total QSO points – penalties) × total multipliers
11 – Band Plan
All participants must adhere to the IARU band plan .
Preferred contest frequencies on 80m SSB :
3.600 to 3.650 MHz and 3.700 to 3.775 MHz
On VHF 2m , operation is allowed in SSB and/or FM
12 – Deadline
All logs must be submitted no later than October 5 via the website.
Logs submitted via email will not be accepted.
Logs submitted after the deadline will not be included in the rankings and will be treated as checklogs .
13 – Logs
Only CABRILLO format logs will be accepted.
Make sure to submit the correct Cabrillo format (instructions available on the BMA website – software).
Include your callsign in the subject line of your submission email and rename the log file to ” mycall.cbr “. Ensure that all required information is correctly included in the header (callsign, category, participant’s name and address, UBA section, possible mill reference, used equipment and antenna). Logs with missing header information will not be considered for the rankings and will be used as checklogs. Note: Each participant may submit only one log per contest section .
14 – Penalties and Disqualification
QSOs not appearing in the counterpart’s log are worth zero points , but no penalty points are deducted.
Cheating , fictitious logging, self-spotting , violation of the contest rules or the IARU band plan , or failure to use the preferred contest frequencies can lead to disqualification .
If a participant submits more than one log , both logs will be disqualified.
Missing one or more of the items listed in sections 9 and 13 may result in disqualification.
15 – Logging Software
All necessary information on how to use N1MM and the required configuration files can be found on the BMA website.
16 – Trophies
A trophy will be awarded to the winner of each category, provided there are at least 5 participants in the category.
17 – By submitting your log, you fully agree to:
You have read and understood the rules.
You have operated your station in accordance with the radio regulations in your country and license.
All actions and decisions of the Contest Committee are final and official.
